Ghorapni Poon Hill Trek

The trek to Ghorepani - Poon Hill (Pun Hill) is the most popular short trek in Nepal and highly recommended, it can be completerd in as little as five days although many people take their time and extend the trek to take in other settlements on the way.The benefit of this particular trek is on leaving from Pokhara within an hour or twos drive you are trekking and getting some spectacular views of the mountains.Walking through charming villages, mainly inhabited by the Gurung & Magar ethnic groups. There are many dense and very colourful rhododendron forests in the spring. It is a good area for birds and deep sub-tropical valleys. If that were not enough, the magnificent Annapurnas and Machhapuchhare (Fishtail Peak) in particular, dominate the skyline.

A highlight of this trip is to climb up early in the morning from Ghorapani to Poon Hill for some fantastic views of both the Dhaulagiri range and the Annapurna range. Dhaulagiri (8,167m) Annapurna (8,091m) along with many other peaks at sunrise is an unforgetable experience.Because it is a popular trek, the facilities found on the trail are good with hot showers and great food. Day 2: City-Sightseeing Historical places as Swayambhunath, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Boudhnath, Pashupatinath:

On this day right after the breakfast, you will start your great full-day time to visit the historical world cultural heritage sites of Nepal. In the first half of the day, you will visit the holy Buddhist site on the hilltop of the western part of Kathmandu, where there will be many rhesus monkeys waiting for you. But be careful...! Sometimes they can be aggressive to destroy or grab your belongings. There you can see a large decorated massive Stupa along with many other temples. This hilltop is also a nice viewpoint for the whole Kathmandu Valley and the Himalayas seen on the northern part of Kathmandu. After you finish the sightseeing tour of Swayambhunath, you will proceed to the Kathmandu Durbar Square, which is also known as Kathmandu City. There is an old Palace built in the 17th century. Around the palace, there are many temples of Kali, Shiva, Vishnu, Kumari (the living Goddess), Krishna, Ganesha and many more. They are made of bricks and Sal wood. After the visit, you can have free time for lunch break.

On the second half, you will be taken to the holiest Hindu Temple of the World, called Pashupatinath known as the master of the animal world. The big temple with golden roof and silver-plated wall on the ground floor is only accessible for the Hindus. There are many other temples, mainly dedicated to Lord Shiva and also some others around the big temple premises. The most interesting thing for the foreigners is the open cremating site at bank of the holy Bagmati River, where mostly the Hindu dead bodies are brought.

Finally, you have the chance to visit the biggest Stupa of Nepal, named Bodhnath in the northern part of Kathmandu, which was constructed in the 5th Century AD. Thousands of Tibetan Buddhist refugees live around the stupa and in the morning and especially in the evening they come to circumambulate and pay homage to the Lord Buddha. They also light the butter lamps around the stupa. The atmosphere is really gorgeous.
